Position Summary
Apiary is seeking a qualified and experienced contract grant writer to assist our Executive Director in securing funding for our work for a period of up to nine months, ideally beginning in mid March 2024.
About Apiary for Practical Support
Apiary for Practical Support offers technical assistance to groups that provide logistical care to people seeking abortions. Collaborating with practical support organizations (PSOs) and community members, we co-create and exchange information, resources, and materials for folks to use and adapt. We offer non-judgmental, non-prescriptive thought partnership for PSOs and PS-curious movement workers seeking support on how to improve or expand their programs and operations. We create spaces for PSOs to be in relationship with one another and collaborate toward shared goals.
We are deeply, unequivocally pro-abortion.
Scope of Work
Produce 2-3 grant submissions per month, for a total of nine months (18-27 proposals in total) including:
Conducting research to determine funding eligibility, proposal timelines, and “fit”
Meeting bi-weekly with ED to discuss strategy, status, and review proposals
Collaborating with our team to gather relevant information and data necessary for grant applications.
Ability to quickly understand an organization’s distinctive role and priorities and make savvy proposal recommendations as a result.
Writing compelling grant proposals, ensuring they meet the specific requirements and guidelines of each funding opportunity.
Assisting in the development of budgets and supporting documentation required for grant submissions.
Submitting grant applications within deadlines and tracking their progress.
Providing regular updates on the status of grant applications and communicating with funders as needed.
Tracking grant research and submissions, as well as any additional funder contact, within Apiary’s donor database.
The ideal person has:
Proven experience in non-profit grant writing
Strong research skills to identify and evaluate potential grant opportunities.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse team.
Familiarity with the goals and objectives of Apiary for Practical Support or similar initiatives.
Experience in the Reproductive Justice field a plus but not required
Experience navigating grant management CRMs a plus but not required (Apiary uses Little Green Light)
Timeline
This project is expected to take up to 9 months at 25-30 hours a month, starting in mid March 2024. Duration can be expanded or contracted based on weekly availability of the consultant.
Budget
There is a maximum budget of $18,000 for the project.

Proposals should include the following:
Cover letter expressing interest and summarizing relevant experience that includes a response to the question, “What is your understanding of the reproductive health and justice and/or technical assistance funding landscape?”
Resume or curriculum vitae detailing the grant writer's qualifications.
Samples of previous successful grant proposals (please redact details identifying specific funders, organizations, staff, and projects).
2-3 references with phone numbers and email addresses
Proposed fee structure for grant writing services.
Proposals will be evaluated based on the following criteria:
Experience and success in grant writing with preference for experience in creating proposals within reproductive health and justice and/or abortion access movements
Understanding of Apiary’s positionality and what kinds of grants would best serve its mission
Quality and clarity of the proposal
Proposed fee structure

Contract Award: No later than March 15, 2024
